Here's a question I need help with... My son just finished inprocessing at Ft. Riley and when I texted him asking what unit he was in he replied - "2-1 HHC STB". When his brother asked what that stood for, he said he didn't know. I thought that was a bit odd, but... Does anyone here know what this stands for exactly?

Wondering how incoming mail works at Fort Riley? My son finally got an address from his Sgt, I sent him a letter 2 weeks ago to see if the address worked & he has not received it. In asking around he was told that one guy just received a package that was sent at Christmas time. Just trying to figure out how this mail thing works there. His Sgt didn't seem to really know. Someone mentioned he might have to go through a UPS store on base & pay for a mail box. My son is feeling like he is having to pay for one thing or ten others on what little pay he gets. Any help/information about this is much appreciated! I have a feeling these guys pay for things they may not have to because they are uninformed on how things work.

Is there a mail room/row of boxes in his barracks? That is where my son got his mail there. Your son needs to check with the on Post mail room as far as what he is to do about getting his mail. The number I find for postal operations is: 239-5411 Have him call that number to find out more about his mail.
My son had no problems receiving mail while there. He had contacted the above to find out how mail worked and where he received his mail.

Just finished packing. We are heading south to Fort Riley tomorrow afternoon. I have made a list of all the questions I need to ask thanks to all of you. I have also made a list of all Justins favorites so I can stop and pick them up on the way.
I did get to talk to Justin on Sunday afternoon. He said it ws a tough day, they, he and his buddies were on guard duty directing traffic. He said it was difficult watching all the families and soldiers. He did comment on how "cool" it was to see all those little kids running around.
God bless all our soldiers. I can't wait to hug mine.

Well my son is due to report to Ft. Riley on Monday the 22nd of March. My husband was going to drive him there from Boston and leave the car with my son and fly home. Now my husbands mother is not expected to live too much longer and my husband is in no shape for a road trip. Now Eric is going to get a plane ticket and fly out to Manhattan, Kansas on Saturday. We have no idea now how to get his stuff to the base. He does not have much just a TV and X-Box and his clothing. We even mentioned buying his TV from him and he could just buy another one when he arrives at the base. Is there a way for them to get around on base? I know he will find his way somehow, I am just wondering.

Yes, in fact the majority of the Soldiers on Army posts all over the earth get around just fine without their own vehicle. And if he has more personal belongings at home that he wants than can be conveniently mailed, he just needs to contact the Transportation Office when he gets there to arrange for a household goods pick-up and delivery.

Thanks AMD. My husband has decided to make the trip. They will take a few days and are going to stay one night at his brothers house in Missouri. I just went to Wal Mart and got him bedding and toiletries. I know he is a Soldier now, but I know how much he hates to shop We are going to miss him like crazy! It will however be nice to be able to talk on the phone and the computer or Skype. A big difference from OSUT. And we will travel to see him I am sure.

My son called last night from the barracks at Ft. Riley. He said he is going to be with a Cavalry Unit and mentioned 163? Any ideas what that means?

He is in the 1/63. I do not know how much we can post about deployments. He already got that information as well.
