Thank you for all the help. I am staying at the Powless Guest House w/son at Fort Sam. it is a nice facility, so happy to be on base. My son sent me copies of his TDY before I left, it helped get on base initially, but hasn't been needed sinde. I can't tell you how much I appreciate your advice and prayers, and words of encouragement. He has his first appointment tomorrow, so I still don't know anymore than when I wrote last week. His apt is at Wilford on Lackland AFB, not BAMC afterall.

At home Dad is managing well with our three younger ones, though our youngest son has strep throat today and feeling pretty miserable. He needs his mommy too. He is only 9. The challenges of being a parent!

Well, I am going to get some sleep. I think I might actually be able to tonight. I will post here as soon as I know anything more. Again, thank you all!

FYI - I am merging this post with your previous "Need some advice" post, so that we don't break the continuity. Also, no reason for members to comment in the other thread if you have an update here.

And, Godspeed!

I hope everything is going OK for your son, am American soldier...I know the place you are staying at and I hope your son is getting good care at Fort Sam. Our son is a medic 68w and trained at Fort Sam Houston and hands down, I think it is one of the best training facilities in the US. During our sons training, he also was able to direct our sons and daughters to the right path for treatment. I beleive the medic who convinced your son to see a specialist probably saved his life. God Bless Our Medics.
I will keep your son in my prayers. May God give you strength to carry all this heavy load. . He is being deployed with the Vt. National Guard and will be able to help our sons and daughters overseas. Please keep our son, in your prayers ...

God Bless

Ann

I am getting ready to pack my bags to head home tomorrow, thought I would let you know what we found out. Unfortunately, very little, as nothing moves as fast as I want. The surgery is scheduled at Willford Hall in another week. He will have a large portion around the melanoma removed and lymph nodes biopsied. The results of the biopsy will take a week to ten days. His melanoma is deep, although not particularly wide. I spoke to the PA today, reviewing what was to come, going over questions I didn't have a chance to ask yesterday. She reconfirmed what I suspected, this is not good. She said the results of the biopsy were not "favorable". Darn it, I know it, I just don't want to face it. Anyway, there has been a social worker assigned to his case, a very nice gentleman, a wonderful resource for my soldier as well as myself.

The Army/Air Force medical staff certainly have been very supportive, and I know they are going to provide my son with great medical care. Much to give God praise for. I am so glad I came! (So, is my son :) )

Prayers are going out to you and your family. Are you going back when he has his surgery? It is good that they caught it now rather than later.

I hope and pray that your son is OK. remember, you are a strong mother and a stronger woman and you and your family will get through this together. I don't know your sons first name but I did put him in our prayer group at our church....If there is anything we could do, let us know.....remember we are all in this together with you and we will be there for you. Do you get any rest or are you at the hospital all the time? Please keep us informed of his progress. God will take care of your son.

Proud Mom and Dad
