Hello everyone

let me start off by stating that I'm at Ft. Gordon right now. my mos is 25Q. i'm a 34 year old male, so I'm a little older then some of the soldiers here. I just started class about 2 weeks ago and won't graduate until early June, i hope :D

i want to say that before i even shipped to basic (ft. benning) i read this thread and others about ft Gordon. this one by far was the most helpful in preparing me for what was to come. i think because I'm a little older (and a parent myself) it was nice to read what other parents were writing and how they interpreted things.

although I'm very busy during the week, on weekends i spend time at the library (like today), so if anyone has any questions that i can answer, I'd be more then happy to help out like those here had helped me out.

thanks again to everyone who has posted before.

My son just graduated from Fort Knox and went to Fort Gordon. No you cannot drive them. They will bus them (which took about 13 hours). I read on Fort Gordon's website that you would be allowed to check them out once they were processed Friday night as long as you had them back by 2pm Sunday, but we did not attempt this since we had purchased our flight to leave Saturday and ended up being suck in KY until Sunday afternoon due to the weather. I would suggest you check with someone before planning such a trip. I am sure someone will be along soon with better information. Good Luck and please thank your solider for his service.

Our son also went from Knox to Gordon. I believe the soldiers always fly out of the nearby airport. We had the good fortune of having a flight leaving at about the same time. We were able to hang out at the airport with our son for 5 wonderful hours while we both waited for our flight.

Mine went on a bus. Took forever because of bad weather.

However, they did have one interesting, memorable, thing happen to them along the way.

It looks like this thread is a bit inactive; I hope that doesn't mean everyone's moved on already. My son just checked in for AIT at Fort Gordon, scheduled to start next Monday 3/29 for 25S. He'll be there for just over 6 months, right through the southern summer. :smt004

My son is about to graduate from Ft. Gordon :) I just found out today that he will be going to Korea. I am excited that he will be able to start seeing the world. He tells me that this will count as a deployment so he wont have to go to Iraq or Afghanistan. I hope your son likes Ft. Gordon.

Samson, Congratulations to your Soldier on his graduation! Best of luck to him in his travels.

My son sent me a text this morning saying, "66 Pushups, 65 situps, 12:50 2 mile. Hooah!" He won't start classes for probably 3 months, so in that time he expects that he'll "Clean. Workout." He's going for 300 points... one down, two to go! His father and I are very proud.
