Hello Everybody,

Just got a text message from my son last night. Exodus dates for 68W at Fort Sam Houston are Dec 18th through January 2. My daughter has put in for leave for Christmas also. So looking forward to having both my Soldiers home for Christmas. Hope everyone has a wonderful season with their Soldier. May God bless each and every one!

Just to clarify - when you say "through January 2" does that mean 68W's still have Exodus on the 2nd and don't have to report back until the 3rd?

Why do I ask that? We have been reporting (see some posts above), that those at Fort Sam have to report back no later than Sunday, Jan 3.

In my opinion though, it would be better to plan on going back on Saturday the 2nd just in case of bad weather or a severe after-holidays rush.

That was the only information he gave me last night. I have asked for him to clarify when exactly he can leave base and exactly when he has to be back on base. Will let everyone know when he lets me know.

I am trying to find out when my sons Christmas Exodus might be. I know he should be the best source for the information however he says he's asked his Platoon Sgt (who he said is new) & has yet to get a definite answer on dates & times. He thinks it is from Dec 18th through Jan 4th but isn't certain. I spoke to him again today expressing his flight needed to get booked but he says he cannot get a firm answer & doesn't know how to get it. I would imagine all bases have their own set dates/times for these things but any suggestions on how we might be able to get firm information on this is much appreciated. My son is now in AIT at Fort Knox. in Echo Company 1-81.

Your best bet would be to call the unit. But remember that the Army prefers that the Soldier take care of the travel arrangements and not his/her family.

As a reminder, most of the young folks have been indoctrinated that they will be told what they need to know and when they need to know it, as well as to do what they're told without questioning. That and most are intimidated by rank.

So when you say you have to push them to get the information, that really is true. When they ask and are told an answer, they don't realize to ask the other questions that we as those with life experience and wisdom know to ask.

Such as, what are the times involved with those exodus dates? That is just as important as the dates themselves! Another would be if they are permitted to make their own travel arrangements, or through the Army, or if can be done by the family so long as they can provide the receipt and itinerary.

Remember, many of these Soldiers are kids who haven't ever had to think along these lines before. They'll learn, so be patient with them.

Personally, I didn't that the travel arrangement issues others may have experienced in AIT since home was about three hours from there so family came and got me.

I do understand where you're all coming from though, since Son will be in AIT later this week. He won't have a clue of those extra seemingly-little questions that should be known. Yes, it's like pulling teeth at times isn't it!

AMD has an excellent suggestion in returning at least a day early. I know that I did while in AIT. I do believe it had to do with we knew what weather was in-coming and were going to avoid my missing the deadline come hell or highwater! At Ft Benjamin Harrison, the Enlisted Club was closed during the Exodus so those that were around went to the NCO Club for New Years Eve.

I also did that when was going to first permanent duty station while on emergency leave from AIT. Mom woke me up at 5am, said pack your bags, you'll be on a plane today. Ohare airport had been closed earlier in the week for only like the third time in history and another big snow storm was expected. She wasn't going to let something as simple as a storm make me not be able to comply with my written reporting orders. I would note - Mom had been the wife of an Enlisted Airborne Soldier (yes, was born in Fayetteville, NC) and of an Air Force Officer Reservist. She knew what was what.

Curious question for you about this statement...next year Son will still be at FSH going through ASI training. Will that too be included with the whole Exodus program do you think? Part of me says Yes since he has to have that school to be MOSQ but the other part of me says No since it's not technically AIT but an ASI course.

Your input is appreciated AMD!

And for anyone else reading this thread, the policy of automatically sending Soldiers home for Christmas Exodus (and essentially shutting the Army post down) only pertains to those in Army training (BCT/AIT/OSUT). Once a Soldier reaches his/her duty station, leave is on an individual basis (except for pre/post deployment block leave).

It would be my guess, that yes, your son would have Christmas Exodus next year since he would still be under "student" status, even though he would be at one of the Army hospitals.

Looking for info on Christmas Exodus dates for Redstone Arsenal. Our son is still in BCT at Ft. Jackson with projected graduation of 11/13. Also, how do we find out when they are supposed to report to AIT? Is it automatically the day after graduation? Does the army provide transportation or should we be prepared to do this? Any info would be greatly appreciated as we are new to the military and trying to learn as we go.

My son is in Redstone right now, but he will be in Eglin over the Exodus. He stated Exodus at Redstone will be from 0500 the 18th to 2400 on the 3rd. But I would make sure he confirms that on his arrival at Redstone.

I know this question has probably been answered, but I can't find it. Does Exodus leave count against their earned leave?

Yes, all leave is subtracted from accrued leave except for convalescent (where it is classified as part of the treatment process).

Anyone know anything about AIT Christmas Exodus from Edgewood/Aberdeen Proving Grounds in Maryland? My husband said the tentative date is Dec. 19. No other information, he had requested I buy the one way flight now, as we wont have the funds for rest until end of month. Anyone have any ideas or should I wait and talk to him about him buying it on post?
