Only if they are members of organizations that the airlines/hotels accept, like AAA or AARP. Parents are not eligible for any official military benefits/perks, only Soldiers and dependents in possession of official ID's. Sorry.

A couple of times when we did visit our son, he covered the hotel expenses and got the military discount. But he was required to be the one paying for the room.

Often times the military discount is the same as any other discount you can get through other avenues listed above. Priceline/Expedia and other types of websites often get you rates even better than that. Just do some comparison shopping! :)

To echo sdl70 reply my two experiences booking airlines tickets was to go to through the airlines website and received better rate than with the Military discount. One time I call the airline direct and the Military discount was a couples of dollars higher than the airline website page. Good Luck and please thank your Soldier for his Service.

My son is currently stationed at Ft. Benning. He is held over until his foot heals. Delta appreciates the military. My son wanted to surprise me by coming home last month for the four day weekend he had. Some how he double booked himself without reliazing it. I called Delta and they said he booked the first ticket on Delta's website (which was at least $200 cheaper) and a couple days later he booked online through a traval agency. I asked if he could cancel one of the flights at first she said no because it was the day before the flight. I told him he was in the Army and he was trying to surprise me. I told her I guess this was an expensive lesson for him. She told me to hold on and she would see what she could do. She was able to cancel one of the flights and refund all his money back for the cancelled flight at no charge. I told him from now on fly delta if you can.

Some of the hotels in Columbus offer a discount if you show them your graduation letter. Military_hotels.com might show the discounts. I would check for the discount when you are making the reservation.

Don't discout a local travel agent. Many times they can get the price you find on the online consolidators, but get you a better flight schedule. I seem to only book through the airline websites or my local travel agent after doing a lot of searching for fares online.
